Hawaii law sets the official notarial fee.

✔ $5 per notarial act (per signature/certificate)
✔ $25 per act for Remote Online Notarization (RON)

Mobile service, travel, and convenience fees are listed below. Fees listed below are staring fees and may vary depending on area. All fees include one notarial act. Each additional notarial act will be charged $5 per notary in accordance with state regulations. If for any reason the notary cannot be completed a minimum fee of $75 will be charged for travel. If documents need to be printed printing fee will be assessed accordingly. (see printing fees)

⚠️ For memory-care or dementia units, staff confirmation of lucidity at appointment time is strongly recommended but does not replace the notary’s independent judgment.

🚔 Jail & Prison Notary Services (Oahu)

Base Correctional Facility Fee: $185-400
Includes:

  • Security screening and clearance

  • Extended entry/exit time

  • One standard notarization

Extended Wait / Lockdown Delays: +$50 per 30 minutes

After-Hours / Emergency Requests: + $75+

🧠 Capacity & Competency Requirement (Hawaiʻi Law)

Under Hawaiʻi Revised Statutes (HRS) Chapter 456, a notary public must refuse notarization if the signer does not appear to be acting knowingly and voluntarily.

At the time of notarization, the signer must:

  • Be awake, alert, and coherent

  • Understand the nature of the document

  • Be able to communicate willingness

  • Be free from heavy sedation, confusion, or cognitive impairment

If capacity cannot be reasonably determined at the appointment, the notarization will be refused.
Travel and facility fees remain due once the notary arrives.

Statutory Authority:

  • HRS §456-16 – Prohibited acts; refusal of notarization

  • HRS §456-16(a)(1)–(3) – Notary must not perform a notarial act if the individual is not competent, not acting voluntarily, or does not understand the transaction

Notaries are not permitted to rely on family members or staff assurances regarding capacity.

🪪 Identification Requirements (Hawaiʻi Law)

  • Valid government-issued photo ID required

  • Hospital wristbands are not acceptable ID

  • Credible witnesses may be used only if legally permitted and personally known or properly identified

Travel fees are separate and based on distance from Notary's Business Location, per the published Oʻahu Travel Fee Schedule.

  • Fees are non-negotiable once appointment is confirmed

    Loan signing fees reflect document complexity, appointment time, and professional responsibility. Additional charges may apply for printing, scanbacks, after-hours requests, or expedited service.

Pursuant to HRS Chapter 456, notarization requires the signer to demonstrate awareness, understanding, and voluntary intent at the time of service. If capacity cannot be reasonably determined, the notarization will be refused. Travel and facility fees remain due upon arrival.
